Stroke continues to be one of the leading causes of disability and death in Greece. At our center, we provide comprehensive and specialized prevention and care services, aiming at both primary i.e. reducing the risk of first occurrence of a stroke, and secondary prevention, to reduce the risk of recurrence.
The primary prevention strategies we implement focus on the assessment and modification of risk factors, such as arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, lipid disorders, lifestyle habits and diet. Through personalized guidance and initiation of appropriate antithrombotic treatment – as required, we contribute substantially to the reduction of overall cardiovascular risk.
Regarding secondary prevention, our team collaborates closely with healthcare professionals from various specialties to develop specialized treatment protocols involving pharmacological or other interventions according to international guidelines. These may include pharmacological, non-pharmacological or other interventions, such as surgical management of symptomatic carotid artery stenosis in selected patients, patent foramen ovale closure after cryptogenic stroke, and treatment of metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance.
In addition, our team undertakes the thorough investigation of cases after the acute phase of the episode, especially in patients without known risk factors, as well as monitoring the course of rehabilitation and therapeutic response. Our approach is interdisciplinary, holistic and personalized, aimed at providing the best possible support, care and update information to patients and their families.
